Virtually Calibration Free and Drift Free!

Traditional glass pH electrodes are a pain in the sump! The glass tubes are fragile, they are regularly clogged by metalworking fluids, they need to be calibrated frequently, and in between the measurements drift wildly. What a pain.

Our new pHwatch INDUSTRIAL pH Sensor will surely appeal to anyone who has hassled to use a traditional pH electrode for measuring metalworking fluids. pHwatch resolves many of the long-standing complications associated with delicate traditional electrodes.

By replacing the fragile glass electrode with an advanced hybrid planar sensor, ruggedness and usability are improved for demanding industrial applications. The hybrid planar sensor is also virtually Calibration Free and Drift Free, resolving yet another costly and frustrating limitation of traditional glass electrodes. We tested three pHwatch Sensors, side-by-side, for more than six months after their initial calibration, and they maintained a precision of +/-0.1 pH over the entire testing period. Reduced signal drift means less maintenance and more accurate and reliable measurements.

The pHwatch Sensor plugs directly into our watchLINK Secure Cloud Link, and your measurements are effortlessly transmitted to MISCO OVERwatch Cloud via cellular radio, where they can be viewed using any smart-phone, tablet, or computer browser.

The entire pHwatch Sensor is less than 5” (12.7 cm) long, making it smaller than the majority of glass electrodes. The sturdy polymer body is chemically resistant and virtually unbreakable. A ½” NPT thread on the frontend of the sensor can be readily connected to our standard flow through adapter, which can also be linked with one of our inline concentration sensors to track measurements of pH, concentration, and temperature.

Why is pH Important to Meatlworking Fluids?

Microbial growth in metalworking fluids is one of the main threats to emulsion stability and the health and safety of your workers. Increases in microbial contamination lead to the release of acids, which naturally lowers the pH and stress metalworking fluids.

pH should generally be moderately alkaline, around 8.0 to 9.5 pH, for most metals and slightly lower for aluminum, to reduce microbial loads and avoid corrosion of parts and tools. For most metals, pH levels <8.0 are often accompanied by corrosion, emulsion instability, rancid odors, and increased risk of health issues for workers. pH levels >9.5 are likely to cause skin irritation.

pH is a useful indicator of the overall health of a metalworking fluid and provides early-warning of uncontrolled microbial growth which, if left untreated, can lead to premature emulsion failure requiring draining and fluid replacement. Considering the cost to drain, clean, refill a sump and dispose of the old fluid, combined with lost production, preventing one occurrence per year could more than pay for the cost of the subscription.
