Long before a refractometer is ever assembled, the device is thoroughly scrutinized for use in sanitary applications by 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to hygienic standards. Certification represents the end of a long road, which includes: demonstrating that the refractometer meets established criteria for mechanical design, material selection and traceability, surface finish, and fabrication, all of which must be inspected and verified by a credentialed independent third-party inspector.

The new MISCO VIP2-3A inline process refractometers are a great example of the latest advancements in SMART-sensor technology. Since the intelligence for processing and communication is contained within the sensor itself, the VIP2-3A refractometer eliminates the need for an external control box. VIP2-3A refractometer can instantly and accurately measure refractive index, temperature correct the reading, convert a refractive index into a more user-friendly unit of measure, and then transmit the results to your data capture system.
Built for Mission-Critical Processes:
Fabricated from the highest quality 316L stainless steel, our VIP2-3A inline refractometer is then passivated to provide the best possible surface finish and corrosion resistance. When complete, the sensor is ready to deliver years of service in hygienic environments. A precision ground sapphire optic, the next hardest substance to diamond, provides a virtually scratch-proof window into your fluid’s physical properties. An ultra-high-resolution detector array can detect even the smallest changes in concentration, ensuring the best possible level of precision and accuracy.
The VIP2-3A-2.0 sensor is designed for installation into a process stream or tank equipped with a 2″ sanitary tri-clamp fitting (1). The tri-clamp design is a standard for hygienic and food and beverage applications.
Extensive Output Options:
The VIP2-3-A output is determined by communication method, and scale. The communication method is selected when you place your order. You may choose the Analog Output Option, which selectively outputs either 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 volts, or the Digital Communication Option, which outputs in RS232 ASCII Text. You can connect your VIP2-3A sensor to the USB port on any Windows® computer with MISCO Inline Connect™ software. The software will walk you through configuring and calibrating your refractometer.
All MISCO Inline Process Refractometers can be factory programmed with thousands of scale combinations from the most extensive refractometer scale library on the planet. What is a scale? Think of it as a special program that converts refractive index, one physical property of a fluid, into another unit of measure that is perhaps more meaningful or easier to work with, such as Brix, % concentration, freeze point, specific gravity, density, molarity, or whatever you like. A scale also contains a non-linear temperature correction model that automatically temperature corrects your readings. Scales do all the conversion work, so you don’t have to. We can help you find the scales that make the most sense for your application, and if we don’t have a scale that meets your needs, we can probably create one for you. We love to do custom scales for our customers.

- The pipe OD determines the fitting size for sanitary stainless steel pipe.
- The sensor is rated to IP68. The standard connector is rated to IP68 unless using a custom connector/cable, available from MISCO, which provides an IP67 rating.
